Having sunlight after work is a totally new thing to me as a blogger. The upside is that I was able to capture day 12 of the challenge after work. The down side is that I looked like this, which is what I like to call "just stared at a computer screen for 8 hours chic" maybe I should just stick to weekend picture-takin'.
I volunteered to make the cupcakes for a coworkers wedding shower at the office. I thought that champagne was such a fitting flavor for the cake because it just seems to have a celebratory ring to it and what goes better with champagne than strawberries, right?
Champagne Cupcakes
1 box white cake mix
3 egg whites
1/3 cup veggie oil
1 1/4 cups champagne
Mix all ingredients together and bake at 350 degrees for 17 to 22 minutes.
Strawberry Butter-Cream Frosting
3 sticks of butter
3 cups powdered sugar
teaspoon of vanilla
3/4 cup strawberry preserves
Beat butter and vanilla until creamy, then gradually add in powdered sugar one cup at a time. Add preserves and mix until everything is well combined. I added some pearly sprinkles for a touch of wedding-ness.
I saw someone selling these on Etsy (for quite the pretty penny) and just thought they were the cutest thing! I knew I had to have them for a shower I am helping plan, and they looked easy enough to do on my own so I went for it and I'm really thrilled with how adorable they came out. I just bought some scrapbook paper in black and pink polka dots and cut out little lingerie sets. Then I glued them on with a good old Elmer's glue stick, and used hot glue, glitter, and sparkly ribbon for the detailing. Pretty simple!
Steve Madden "Dynemite" $99.95
JC Penney Olsenboy Dakota Platform $40.00
Just something I came across on the internet and had to share. I loved these coral shoes when I saw them at Steve Madden, but the JCP ones are seriously just as cute and just a fraction of the price, I LOVE when that happens!! I can't wait for March to be over so I can start shopping again. Happy Monday.
My dress is actually going to guest post today, it insisted.
Hi everyone, the last time you saw me, I was a top. I am now thinking I probably should just stay a top because my friend here kinda looks like shes missing pants, even though I'm technically a dress. While I totally thought I was lady like enough to work a whole outfit myself, I'm now rethinking that whole situation. Oops.
These cookies are super adorable and literally took me about 10 minutes. Just get yourself some french vanilla cake mix and turn it into cookies (you can turn any cake mix into cookies with two eggs, two teaspoons of milk, 1/3 cup veggie oil, and a splash of vanilla, bake for 10 minutes at 350). Frost with strawberry frosting and sprinkle up. Done!

Who says you can't be lady like and a wild child all at the same time? I love this lace top and can't wait to pair it all different ways for spring. I definitely see brightly pleated skirts in my future...and maybe a fancy high tea date? A girlfriend of mine keeps suggesting we do it and now I'm thinking I've got just the right outfit for it. I am feeling better, back at work, and the sun is shining. Things are looking up!

Hi guys, sorry I have been a bit MIA on my blog, I've been so sick with bronchitis it's been hard to even get my booty off the couch let alone post coherent things. I couldn't even bare the thought of putting this sweat pants wearing, swamp donkey, creepy creature from Lord of the Rings version of myself I have morphed into in actual pictures...(as Mrs. Beckham would say, perish the thought!). Promise I will be back soon.
XOXO,
Erin

Went on a little day date with my boy to Georgetown last weekend. It was filled with sunshine, new spring blooms, window shopping, bus rides, and homemade ice cream. I even dragged his butt all around Sephora in search of the perfect summer skin foundation color and I heard not-a-one complaint (I think he was more overwhelmed and confused by all the colorful powders and potions we women use to do face magic). Can you believe that? It was a good day.
Win this hat or one of Seams to Be's other great products!
As you guys know I basically lived in this hat throughout winter. I love it so much I had to let you guys in on a giveaway going on right now over at Craftanista for a chance to win one of her Etsy shop items (up to $38). Check it out!
Hi guys. I'm feeling pretty under the weather and am home sick today so you guys get a bonus post because I'm bored. Honestly I have been a little overwhelmed with this challenge as far as documenting goes. It's pretty stressful trying to get a photo of each day but I've magically been getting it done. How did you guys do it? And I feel like I'm cheating on my kitchen & make up bag because there haven't been many posts other than remix outfits but I promise that will change when I'm all done! Anyway, about this polka-heart top...
For part of the challenge I picked pieces that I had in my closet but have never worn before just to get use out of them in an attempt to be a more fiscally responsible human being. I am now realizing why this blouse sat there on the hanger a little longer than normal..it kinda looks like I am about to be abducted by Cruella DeVil, doesn't it? I also realize that I am going out of order with these days but it's my challenge and I'll skip around if I want to.

These shades make me feel like a movie star. I suggest everyone get a pair pronto. Seen below is my best "just called the papz on myself" poses. As far as the challenge goes, day ten: I am really starting to miss my other shoes, I secretly try them all on when no one is looking because I don't want them to think I've abandoned them forever..for those of you that are doing/already did this, is this normal behavior?

I need to make a confession here. Today I made great strides. I popped into J.Crew after brunch with the ladies (which I DO NOT suggest doing whilst on a shopping diet) and locked eyes with this beauty. I even went as far as trying. it. on. and I became intoxicated with it's fresh white cotton-y, polka-dotted, twirly skirt deliciousness and came oh so close to making the purchase.. but then I thought about how I didn't want to let you guys down so I stayed strong and didn't do it. This is HUGE people. Huge.
I am not sure if any of you read the book, "The Help" but I did. As much as I loved the story and all the really well developed characters, from the minute they started talking about Minny's famous "Caramel Cake" I really couldn't stop thinking about anything else. Being a Jersey girl and not from Mississippi, I had never heard of this kind of cake, is it layered? Is the cake batter caramel flavor? Does it have frosting? SO MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS! Anyway, I found this recipe for the most amazing, dense, decadent pound cake from none other than Southern Living and it is simply divine. I made some home made caramel sauce to drizzle over top of it which was absolute perfection. I imagine Minny Jackson's caramel cake looks something like this one I have concocted.
Ingredients
3 sticks of butter (softened)
1 package cream cheese
6 eggs
3 cups sugar
3 sifted cups flour with 1/8 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
2. Beat butter and cream cheese together until whipped smooth and then mix in the sugar 1 cup at a time.
3. When the sugar is well combined into the butter/cream cheese, add in the vanilla extract and the eggs (one egg at a time).
4. Add in flour (slowly) to the butter mixture until you have a smooth cake batter.
5. Bake in a greased 10 inch bunt pan for 1 hour and 40 mins then let cool completely before removing.
Caramel Sauce
Bring four tablespoons of butter, 1/4 cup milk (or cream), and 1 cup packed brown sugar and a pinch of salt to a simmer. Add 1 tablespoon vanilla and whisk for 7-10 minutes or until thick.
Awkward
-Running out of my apartment shoving cake with my bare hands into my mouth for breakfast (no napkin or plate or fork people) only to have this cake crumble all over the floor of the elevator that I am sharing with suited business men as I chomp away. Nice.
-Being so preoccupied trying to finish up this cake before I make it out into the public eye that I slam face fist into the lobby doors, leaving a lip-gloss mark on the glass that may or may not have a crumb stuck to it. Double Nice.
-Always forgetting there is a middle school aged intern at our office and repeatedly being jarred by him upon first glace mistaking him for a freakishly youthful looking adult man in a suit. Scary.
Awesome
-Said cake. It was the Fatty McFatterson of cakes, but it was worth every embarrassing crumb. Recipe to come.
-The man that hands me the morning paper outside my metro stop. He calls me "super-girl" every morning and really pumps me up for the day. Each day without fail, I either get the "here comes super-giiiiiirl" or "ohhhh she got boots on today yall, work those boots girl!" It has really become the highlight of my mornings.
-The fact that my awkward 80's bangs are FINALLY growing out (shown above in prime awkward stage, Mike can't even bare to look at them).
-This beautiful, mood boosting, glorious sun shiny day we are having in DC. It makes me want to run around in meadows spinning my arms around in a circle while smiling up at the sky like that weird mom from Pete and Pete.
-Singing Karaoke with the boyf for the first time to Montell Jordan's "This is How We Do It." (I really wasn't sure which list this should go under, but better to embrace it, right?)
Congrats on making it to the end of this post if you actually read all of them, you ROCK!

This top is actually a dress (say wwwwhaaat?)! I am super excited about posting this one (despite my sourpuss face above) because:
1. I consider this getting extra creative for this challenge (believe me I am not the type of girl that just picks up a dress and says "sorry dress, I think you should be a blouse today") and..
2. Someone asked me if it was by Tory Burch while I was out... and that is like so fetch (it's totally not some fancy pants Tory top, but who am I to deny dress from being the best blouse she can be by correcting her? Good job zig-zag dress, for it being your first attempt at a top.. you done good.
Hi guys! You can find me over here today because I just became part of the Ruche blogger family! Check out my feature in their polka dot post. I pretty much feel like I just won the lottery, or an Oscar, or a vacation, or a puppy...you get the point. I'm so giddy and excited I just jumped up and down all over our apartment and couch like a kid on the last day of school (or it could be that I am just beginning to lose my mind from chocolate deprivation).
Okay I know I am WAY late to the game here but I finally figured out how to make a button after many many attempts. It's embarrassing how many hours.. yes hours I put into figuring this out (I realize this takes only 15 mins or so for 21st century folk). Feel free to re-name me grandma Habes as I obviously have trouble figuring out these fancy space aged gizmos you youngin's call computers. Seriously when I see HTML code my brain starts sweating profusely, goes into "do not compute" mode, and blows up, so this feels like a real win here people.
In honor of my personal victory and because I like promoting my blog besties (and because I want to actually use this thing I labored so hard over) I want to play a little game. Well not a game, a free swap of buttons for the rest of the month! I think I can get up to a 200x200 button in there so if you are interested send me and email (currently.coveting@gmail.com). The first five bloggers that want to swap with me get the spots on the right side of this blog. YAY!
