Hope everyone is having a fun holiday! I can't wait to check out all the trick-or-treater's costumes later. Mike and I took a stroll through a local neighborhood Sunday afternoon (pre-Sandy) and stumbled across the most crazily decorative Halloween street ever. I don't know how, but every cool parent must live on this block. There must be some kind of qualifying awesomeness test or something. It made me wish I were a kid all over again so I obviously whipped out my iphone and snapped some of my favorites to share with you. One family turned their house into a pirate ship! Happy Halloween!
Pirate ship house.
Biker monsters.
Just a skeleton driving a beat up car in someones front lawn. Awesome.

My boyfriend and I don't get to spend as much time together as we would like to due to my work hours and his full time law student/internship status. The weekends are split between his boys, my girlfriends, soccer games, and other standard adulthood obligations so when a completely plan-free, beautiful, pretend-like-it's-August-in-the-middle-of-October-Saturday came up we envisioned a day spent going on a walk with the pup, a nice jog, and a trip to a DC museum ending with lunch at a new spot. Que an impromptu trip to Target, my car battery dying in the parking lot, a very very long wait for AAA, cranky, hungry, unshowered, ravenous versions of ourselves ripping into the trick or treat candy just purchased for lunch and you have an absolutely perfect picture of our day-date-fail. Without wanting to surrender to the day of unfortunate events, I took a power nap, we prettied ourselves up, put on our date faces and decided to try again. Sushi from the restaurant down the street followed by an over priced movie rental turned out to be just the quality time I was craving. How were your weekends?

This weekend I am making it a priority to indulge in lots of Halloweenish activities since Thanksgiving is right around the corner. There will definitely be some pumpkin baking, themed nail painting, and scary movie watching (abc family usually hits all the favs). What will you guys be up to?
Congrats to Jessica S. for winning the Seams to Be handmade hat giveaway! We will be in touch shortly!
..that one time when you accidentally showed up to an event wearing the EXACT same color scheme as one of your besties? Yeah. We did that. How crazy is this? If you are interested, you can read all about the FBL event we attended here, written by said bestie featured above with some of my photos, including a sneaky side-snap of Miss J Alexander (who hosted the event) himself!
I am ice cream obsessed. I grew up in a household that allowed dessert after dinner almost every night and you know what was served 90% of the time? Ice cream. Fast forward 20 years and my love handles are made of solid mint chocolate chip. This is a huge hurdle for me in my attempts at staying on track and I recently learned about this amazing dessert trick that has saved me from taking the 1 minute walk to Frozen-Yo (blast the convenient location of my apartment!) on many craving fueled nights. I keep a permanent supply of chopped bananas in my freezer at all times now for emergencies. I am pretty sure I saw it for the first time on Melissa's website, Cupcakes OMG!, but I couldn't find the exact recipe in her archive so here's how I've been doing it (Melissa if you send me a link to your recipe I will post the link here).
Ingredients
1 chopped and frozen banana
1 tablespoon of almond milk
1 teaspoon almond butter (optional, I've done it without)
2 tablespoons (or however many you are comfortable with) mini chocolate chips
Directions
Blend bananas, almond milk, and almond butter in food processor until smooth. Mix in chocolate chips and you've got a perfectly guilt free frozen treat. Easy as that. I also have done a variation where I added a teaspoon of coco powder instead of almond butter to make a chocolatey ice cream substitute. The possibilities are really endless, you could add in some honey and nuts, nutella, or I hear strawberry quick mix makes a pretty good strawberry version. Go to town on this people, it's just fruit after all :) I was actually able to make a couple servings at once and freeze the leftovers if you are looking to save time.

How stinking adorable are these lovely ladies rocking their Seams to Be cozy AND stylish (who knew they coexisted) hats. Not only are her pieces super warm and so on point for the fall and winter months, but each one is handmade with love and detailed craftsmanship. Lyndsay (creator and shop owner) was sweet enough to offer one of my readers a Seams to Be hat of their own! See all of her styles here. I obviously have an obsession as you can see me rocking her pieces here, here, here, and here (just to name a few). Easy entry below! Winner will be announced next Friday, October 26th.
1. Target $32
3. Target 74.99 (and REAL leather!)
4. Frye $328
6. Frye $288
Want to rock the seasons cutest boot styles but don't have the budget to go out and buy three new pairs of 300+ dollar beauties? Yeah, neither do I. Good thing Target comes to the rescue! Now I do realize that it's a good investment to get a pair of nice boots that will last you many years, but I don't want to have to wear the same pair all the time. Why not mix it up with a few less expensive pairs and be able switch up your look without breaking the bank? These Target versions are dead ringers for their mucho pricey twins!
There's nothing like spending a day with great people in the crisp October air indulging in brunches, limo rides, wine tastings, and over all bachelorette debauchery. My friend Katie's bash was super fun and unbelievably well planned. There were adorable meticulous details sprinkled throughout the day that continued to impress me from the "Happily Ever After" wine stoppers and handmade Swarovsky wine charms included in the favors (genius for keeping track of our glasses) to the delicious tea sandwiches, cupcakes, and lingerie cookies (so cute) that were brought out at the last vineyard right as the sun was going down and hunger struck again. Her bridesmaids were AH-MAZING. Can't wait for the wedding!
Can you believe these views? Most of these photos were captured with my iPhone and don't do them justice, but it was really breathtaking. If you are in the DC area I suggest you get out to some of the gorgeous vineyards before October ends. It's beautiful!

October 15, 2012 • banana republic D'Milikah Gigee Marie J.Crew Loft Outfit Post ray-ban seams to be
The deets: J.Crew pencil skirt; Loft sweater tee; Banana Republic boots; scarf and ring c/o D'Milikah; hat c/o Seams to Be; Ray-Ban sunnies; Lancome "Violette Croquette" lipstick; Gigee Marie clutch (win from LIBB).
One of my favorite parts of cooler weather is being able to give my locks a break thanks to the sweet camouflage skills of my cozy hats. They are the best for keeping you warm, and letting your second day hair do its thing with out anyone knowing about it. I am seriously obsessed with this one by Seams to Be, I had the same one last year in a lighter color but I guess my pup was also pretty obsessed with it and decided to eat it. Lucky for me she had a similar color in stock this season! Go check her out.
The deets: H&M blazer (very old); J.Crew dress; GAP heels (old); gifted necklace (not sure where it came from); UO sunnies.
I hope this trend never goes out of style because it makes my life much easier in the mornings when I don't feel like coordinating an outfit. Throwing on a simple dress and pairing it with a blazer it the fastest way to feel chic and put together on the run. I don't know if I would ever wear these two particular pieces together again but like I said, it was the (very early) morning when I deliriously chose them and who makes the best decisions at that hour anyway, right?
As I have previously explained, I am trying to eat a bit healthier these days. My first attempt at satiating my junk food craving whilst staying true to my little health kick is this pizza trick which has a crust made of just cauliflower, seasonings, and an egg (crazy right?). I followed this recipe exactly and it turned out pretty good! I cannot stress how important it is to squeeze out as much water from the cauliflower as possible after steaming it. I think if I made it again I would thicken up the crust and cook it on a lower heat for much longer to make a better crust and maybe top with some mushrooms. Yum.
The deets: GAP jeans (destroyed myself) and heels (old); Chinchilly nails; Ray-Ban sunnies; snood c/o Seams to Be; H&M earrings (won from A Beautiful Life); J.Crew tee; Piperlime clutch; Express jacket (similar); David Yurman ring.
You can find almost all of my personal Autumn staples here in one look (minus boots - obvs). Everyone's must haves are different of course, but for me a (faux) leather jacket, plain white tee, cozy snood in a neutral tone, sunnies for any occasion, broken in denim, and a pair of black suede pumps top the list. Layer them all together and this is what you get. I like to keep it simple, especially when the wind is wild like it was on this day (check out my cray cray wind hair in the last pic).
Look out for a Seams to Be giveaway in the coming weeks!
Using only some toothpicks and your favorite polishes you can create this little floral design on your nails. Just dab your colors onto a piece of magazine paper you don't want anymore, dip the toothpicks in the paint, and dot your design onto your nail. Easy peasy. make sure you wait for your design to dry completely before putting topcoat on as it will make it run and distort your pretty pattern. If this seams too hard, start of with polka dots and see how it turns out. In addition to the three Essie colors mentioned above I used Sally Hansen's "Mellow Yellow" for the centers of the flowers.
