The deets: J.Crew pencil and chambray; sunnies c/o Firmoo; Steve Madden wedges (now on super sale!); vintage necklace; South Moon Under earrings; Piperlime clutch; Michael Kors watch; Lancome "Midnight Rose" lipstick.
I have amassed a pretty extensive collection of pencils skirts in the five years that I have been in the workforce. They are brightly colored, printed, and striped. They are not, however, very useful outside of the M-F workday, so after seeing J.Crew (me favs!) put out an absolutely fabulous e-mail ad about wearing them on the weekend, I decided to give it a shot. It actually didn't feel as work-y as I thought! I ran my errands on my day off in perfectly normal pencil skirt style. What do you guys think? Should we let our work clothes out on weekends or no? I say yes as it helps to justify my future purchases (wink wink).
These cupcakes were per the request of a friend who is a big Redskin's fan and was having her boyfriends b-day at one of the pre-season games. They are classic red velvet with cream cheese icing (died yellow) with little football toppers I found at my local party store. I thought I should share them because really, you could do this for ANY team and have it look really festive for any party! Just change the cake/icing recipe to be flavors that match your teams colors (or use dye). So cute! Happy football season to everyone!

While I have a leather mini on hand for those occasions where I want to feel a bit more edgy, I can only break it out every so often because well, it's a tiny leather mini skirt. I have recently been eyeing up the more sophisticated, conservative, (possibly) safe for work version of the leather skirt: the pencil. I am really hoping for a cross between the pockets on number three and the length on four (please clue me in if this exists somewhere). What do you guys think? Me like!

I am not personally a big fan of the mint & chocolate power couple flavor combo but I know those who are, REALLY ARE. One of those people is my coworker, Lindsay. I decided it was time to make her some "just because" treats and this was just the cookie for her. Easy recipe below!
1 1.5 lb package of Betty Crocker sugar cookie mix
1 stick butter (softened)
1 teaspoon peppermint extract
1 cup mint & dark chocolate M&M's
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chunks
Preheat oven to 375. Combine cookie mix, butter, egg, and extract together until fully combined. Stir in M&M's and chocolate chunks. Spoon 1.5 inch thick balls of dough onto a cookie sheet and bake 8-10 minutes.

Today I want to pop in and stress the importance of curling your eyelashes, ladies. I know many of you totally skip over this part of your beauty routine all together but seriously peeps, it makes SUCH A DIFFERENCE! Please see the before and after photo above for proof. There is absolutely nothing different about my makeup with the exception of my lashes being curled in the second photo, and in my opinion, the after pic is WORLDS better than the before. My super top secret tip? Warm your curler up with your blow-dryer for a long lasting effect (but be very careful and test the temp on your cheek or hand before so you don't burn your eyeball off)! Another important tip is that all curlers are not created equal. Some may be okay to use after applying mascara has dried and some are absolutely not (aka they will eat your lashes and rip them off violently so I suggest doing it before mascara if you're not sure). I use a regular old Revlon one that you can get at any convenient store but this one is apparently the curler to end all curlers if you have a taste for fancy thangs.

The deets: t-shirt c/o Skip N' Whistle; TopShop skirt (similar); Elizabeth and James sunnies; Target x Prabal shoes; Kate Spade earrings; Piperlime clutch; Essie "Mesmerized" nails; Michael Kors watch; necklace c/o Lisa Leonard.
I've made no secret of my cat lady status. Weather it be my iPhone case, or the fact that my cat has her own instagram hash-tag (#ellathefluffernugget), I wear my cat loving spinster ways proudly. When I discovered this adorable Skip N' Whistle "Crazy Cat Lady" t-shirt (which is made from a super soft american apparel tee) I knew it was too perfect for me to pass up. I obviously had to rock my cat eye sunnies with it as the kitty on the shirt is doing the same. MEOW!

I used to have a habit of buying a scratch-offs from the scratch-off machine every time I went to the grocery store. If I won any money, I would use my winnings solely to buy more scratch-offs and see how far my luck would take me, which was usually to a place with no winnings left, but it is still totally fun to play.
Diamond Candles are basically like the extreme fancy pants version of scratch-offs, except it's not a cheap piece of paper and cash prizes, it's a fabulously scented organic soy candle and a ring worth either $10, $100, $1000, or even $5000! It's also a much better idea because 1. everyone wins (there is ALWAYS a ring inside) and 2., you still have a delicious candle to burn at the end of the day. I chose "Orchid Meadow" because I love floral scents and the pretty pinky color, but they have a whooooooole bunch of other options to choose from. And guess what? YOU CAN WIN A FREE ONE RIGHT NOW! The deets: J.Crew pullover; Factory skirt; Zara heels; GiGee Marie clutch; Francesca's earrings; Lancome "Violette Coquette" lipstick; Michael Kors watch.
This is the outfit I wore to an impromptu dinner at Chima (a Brazilian steakhouse) with one of my besties. To all my DC/VA locals - this place was FABULOUS, do yourself a favor and go (unless you are a vegetarian...it's basically a meat party) everything I tried was fantastic.
Anyway - I wanted a quick way to really change up my look. All it took was parting my hair down the middle in stead of on the side, skipping eye makeup all together, and choosing a really bold purple lipstick instead of my light pink go-to. Try it and see how different you feel!

The deets: J.Crew button down; Elie Tahari skirt; Wet Seal necklace (similar); earrings c/o Giando Massi; Banana Republic wedges & clutch; Revlon "Orange Flip" lipstick; Michael Kors watch; South Moon Under bracelet.
You just gotta love what the rainy weather does for your hair...said no one ever. Yep, I'm putting it all out there. This is what my mane looks like on this fine day after a full eight hours of work. Take it all in, and try not to be too jealous. On a totally different note, I do love this skirt and its pretty tie front detail. I've had it since I was like 19 and it's somehow survived all my style changes. Bravo, skirt.

I know I'm not the only girl our there that honestly considers high end hair care a health necessity. My locks are so used and abused on a daily basis, I feel it's only right to soak them up in rehabilitating fancy pants products as a routine "I'm so sorry, please don't band together and decide baldness is a better option" gesture. El problemo is that this gesture costs like...roughly a zillion dollars because I have long hair and admittedly use more product than necessary. For that reason, I always throw in some less expensive shampoos and conditioners into the rotation to bring down the cost. Above are my absolute favorite drugstore brand products that you can get for UNDER FIVE DOLLARS PEOPLE. My number one right now (and also the cheapest!) is the Dove Nourishing Oil. Makes your hair soft, silky, and light and smells fab too. The L'Oreal total repair is similar - great for moisturizing and softness. The Herbal Essences Body Envy works almost like a clarifying shampoo and is great for removing buildup and product while giving your hair a little more oomph. What are your favorite drugstore brands? I'd love to know!
