The deets: GAP vest (so old, similar) & jeans; Max Studio tee (similar); J.Crew flats & earrings (sold out, love these); Steve Madden bag (love this one); Baublebar necklace.
I have had this black GAP vest in my closet since 10th grade. Yup HIGH SCHOOL. If that isn't such a Basic B thing, I don't know what is. It truly is a testament to the longevity of certain staple items. Here's to hoping my boyfriend jeans, black & white striped tee, and metallic flats will also still be useful/relevant ten years from now.
..Transitioning to Fall
September 26, 2014 • Blank Denim Buffalo Jeans CC SKYE currently coveting express Fashion MANGO One Stop Plus
Buffalo Jeans Leather Jacket // Mango Pom Pom Beanie // One Stop Plus Scarf // Blank Denim Faux Suede Pants // Pink Mascara Bangles // Express Earrings
Now that my morning walks to work are feeling more on the "crisp" side, I have started to keep my eye out for good transitional pieces I can wear now and later. A leather jacket is a must. This Buffalo Jeans one is adorable and rings in under $100 which makes me happy. Throw a fun printed scarf over it like this one I found at One Stop Plus (under $26!) and you are instantly chic! Faux suede pants, a cute pom pom beanie, and fun blingy accessories are also on my fall wishlist. What are you guys currently coveting?
The deets: J.Crew boots (similar), skirt, and tee; Shop Sosie sweater; Steve Madden bag (similar); similar earrings; Ray-Ban sunnies.
This sweater is basically like wearing a blanket to work. That makes it priceless to me, but as it ALSO happens to be under $50, go and get yourself one. You will thank yourself when for some reason the air conditioner in your office is blowing Elsa level winds at you. Yes, that was a Frozen reference.
Another gorgeous shower up in here. This time the MOH decided on a "rustic" themed shower or as I describe it "chalkboard" themed. She pretty much quarterbacked the whole thing and gave each bridesmaid, MOB, MOG, and family member that wanted to contribute a job to do. When everything came together it was pretty awesome. We had a bubbly bar, DIY parfait station, lots of yummy eats, a "photo-booth" where we took Polaroids and put them in a little notebook with advice for the Mrs. to be, a fun video recorded game with the groom which was so awesome, and little mason jar treats to take home. To continue the eco-friendly theme for our bride, we asked guests not to bring wrapped gifts and spent zero time watching her open them. All and all I'd say it was a success! Yay weddings!
Let me first say that I am often the one in my group of ladies to throw complaints about getting older out into the world like confetti. Yes, the hangovers Suck with a capital S, yes, the lines in your forehead are laying their groundwork like little carpenters mapping out your old saggy future, and yes, we have no idea what tweens are talking about anymore and that freaks us the eff out. You graduated WHEN? Yeah.
BUT..
There are some straight up AWESOME things about being in your late twenties and beyond that go under appreciated at times and today I am here to bring them the acknowledgement they deserve. Not to say everyone is on the same page here, but I know that you can probably relate to at least some of these points, so celebrate.
1. We have figured out what the hell to to with our hair, people, and that was NO easy feat. It took years of bad haircuts, colors, and product searching. YEARS. Go us!
2. We can do our makeup with our damned eyes closed and still emerge looking semi-fabulous because we've practiced the shit out of that routine, whatever it may be.
3. We have a true personal style. No more dipping our toes in suspect trends just to test the waters. We know what we can get away with and what makes us look stupid. Crop tops? Yes, if paired with the right skirt. High waisted cut off jeans that expose your lower buttock? No way. Platform sneakers? Hard pass.
4. We have more swagger now than we ever did in our early twenties which makes us TOTALLY SEXY. This is partly because of numbers 1, 2, and 3, but mostly because we are finally comfortable in our skin and don't care about strangers opinions.
5. We know who our true friends are and surround ourselves with them. We live more fulfilled, quality lives because we know who to invest time in and who it's okay to let go of.
6. We have more disposable income because we've likely been promoted a time or two by now. You want to buy a $42 bottle of hair spray (looking at you, Oribe)? GO FOR IT. Take THAT 23 year old self.
7. Sometimes, our friends HAVE BABIES. THEY LITERALLY MAKE NEW HUMANS. That effing rocks in ways I can hardly understand.
8. We know how to make delicious things without a damn recipe. We may have learned out of necessity when we were thrust into adulthood, but have have since taken that bull by the horns and could probably compete in at least the first round of Chopped and come out with something edible.
Basically, if I had to sum it up, we are just wiser, funnier, happier, and better because we have stocked up on lifes trials, tribulations, and lessons. So cheers to us, late twenties-early thirties ladies. We are effing awesome and don't you forget it.
The deets: J.Crew dress (similar) and jacket (similar); Ivanka Trump heels (similar, love these); Steve Madden bag (love this one); Elizabeth and James sunnies; necklace c/o The Pink Armoire; Lancome "Wannabe" lipstick.
Sometimes when you are having one of those days that nothing is working, you just have to go for the simplest answer. Black dress, white jacket, leopard (neutral) heels, out the door. Sidenote - I actually got these same shoes like three years ago and wore them into the ground, like literally they are falling to pieces and I may have sharpied part of the spots back onto them after the calf hair fell out from all my abuse. I was super sad that I wouldn't have them this fall season and they are obviously no longer available in stores sooo I did a little internet stalking and found a brand new pair on Poshmark! Oh happy day. What can I say people, I am also the girl that has the same exact back in black and brown. I LIKE WHAT I LIKE.
..Buffalo Chicken Dip & Food Should Taste Good
September 14, 2014 • buffalo chicken dip Food Should Taste Good party appetizer recipe recipe post Snacks
You know what no one in the history of get-togethers ever said? "Don't bring buffalo chicken dip." You know why? Because it's an amazingly delicious crowd pleaser that everyone loves. You know what goes great with Buffalo chicken dip? Literally EVERY kind of Food Should Taste Good snack. Shown here is the sweet potato & multigrain varieties which obviously were a hit as there are almost none left. We actually don't have a crock pot which I believe is how this deliciousness is normally made, so we (I say "we" but honestly I can't take full credit for this one, it was the boyfriend who made it, I just taste tested ;) crafted a recipe that was easy enough for men to do on football Sunday sans a slow cooker. Recipe below!
Ingredients
2 (10 ounce) cans chunk chicken, drained
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1 cup Ranch dressing
1 cup hot sauce (any kind)
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
dash of cayenne pepper
2 bags of Food Should Taste Good multigrain or sweet potato chips
Directions
Heat chicken and hot sauce in a skillet over medium heat. Stir in cream cheese and ranch dressing. Stir until well combined. Mix in half of the shredded cheese until melted then transfer to a baking pan. Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top then bake on 350 until hot and bubbly. Serve with Food Should Taste Good chips.

..Affordable Ear Jackets
September 11, 2014 • Ariel Gordon BaubleBar currently coveting ear jackets Fashion Jewelry style
The deets: 1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6
I recently got into the whole ear jacket trend. I purchased numbers 1 and 6 during an awesome Baublebar 30% off sale a few weeks ago and have since gotten so many compliments on them whenever I have them on. There are some amazing real gold ones on the market (like these), but my fear of this being one of those super trendy things has me feeling it's wiser to invest in the more affordable versions. I definitely think I need a pearly pair next. How awesome are they? You need some in your life, believe me.
The deets: J.Crew tee; Lucky Brand shorts (DIY - made from the BFs old jeans); Ray-Ban sunnies; Converse sneakers; Rebecca Minkoff bag; Michael Kors watch, Essie "Fifth Avenue" polish.
Although I am not a true Nats fan (the Yankees will always come first due to my rowdy Jersey upbringing), I attend enough of their baseball games as a transplant to make them my number two team (at least they aren't in the same league). I'm not big on jerseys or fan gear but red nail polish with a linen baseball tee and comfy sneaks I can get down with. Add stadium hot dogs, a cute boyfriend, and beer to that list and you've got a perfect Saturday.
..Joules Women's Rain Boots
September 5, 2014 • currently coveting Fashion Joules Joules Women's Rain Boots rainboots wellys
Move over Hunter, there is a cuter rain boot in town! Aren't these Joules styles perfect? I don't know about those other states out there, but it has been raining cats and dogs here in the DC/Arlington area on and off all week (see the puddles in yesterdays post). As someone who walks a little over half a mile every day to and from my morning metro ride, the rain can be my mortal enemy. A good pair of rain boots are absolutely mandatory. The good news is just because they are acquired out of necessity, doesn't mean they have to look utilitarian. Check out these adorable Joules rain boots! Floral, polka-dots, animal prints, and stripes? Yes please! Joules has an amazing way of bringing a feminine touch to things that are useful, remember this post? Quality stuff, guys.
The deets: J.Crew skirt and chambray top; Prabal x Target heels (similar, also here); Michael Kors watch; Ray-Ban specs; Baublebar necklace (similar); Steve Madden bag (similar, LOVE); Revlon "Orange Flip" lipstick.
I know it's early for tweed but I just could wait to break out this skirt again because it's one of my favorites. I really gravitate toward patterns, bright colors, classic shapes, and more form fitting pieces so needless to say this skirt checked all my boxes and had to be mine. MINE. Also - someone told me I looked like Catt Sadler with this middle part thing I have going on recently and I about died, so you're going to be seeing a lot more of it up in here.
The deets: LOFT dress (sold out, similar); Steve Madden wedges (similar) and bag (similar); ZeroUV sunnies; Anthropologie earrings; Bauble Bar necklace (similar); Michael Kors watch.
I spent my Sunday brunching with two of my favorite ladies (one of which is becoming a mama in roughly two weeks). After our delicious meal we spent some of the afternoon perusing the shops of Clarendon for Labor Day sales. Although all I came home with was hangers, a planner, and these babies, it was a pretty fabulous day capitalizing on one of the last slow summery days of the year.
