Tuesday will be my eight year anniversary with my boyfriend. We spent Friday night celebrating at a new restaurant in our neighborhood since the weeknight isn't quite as fun. This is what I wore on our date. I scooped it up after sneaking off to the mall on my lunch break one day last week to pick up a surprise gift for him. There was a Forever 21 next to the place I needed to go so of course I did a lap and ended up finding some great things! Their Love 21 section is really stepping up it's game.
Spring is here and with that comes the annual onslaught of welcome wedding frenzy. Gowns are being altered, color pallets have been chosen, and your pinterest boards are so organized they make the container store look slovenly. This usually means it's time to pick bridesmaid dresses. In the event that anyone out there is also experiencing this, here are some fabulous examples from my personal experience of ways to dress your maids. I love the selection of bridesmaid dresses at Shopbop (and their Wedding Boutique in general is fabulous), J.Crew, and BHLDN.
1. The traditional approach where all bridesmaids/MOH are rocking the same dress.
2. All your bridesmaids in the same dress, and your MOH standing out in a different shade & shape.
3. All your bridesmaids in one color but different styles, with one style reserved for the MOH.
4. All your bridemaids in the same dress, tied up different ways.
5. Picking one color for your bridesmaids, and one for your MOH and letting them pick their own.
The deets: Missguided top; F21 midi skirt similar, (other gorgeous midi skirt options); Madewell heels (other Madewell shoes) and sunnies; J.Crew earrings (similar iridescent earrings); 3.1 Phillip Lim bag.
Instead of talking about this outfit and how much I like, totally still dig the crop top trend, I am going to tell you a true story. I have been reading some inspiring things recently and have decided I need to sprinkle in some more insightful posts to balance out much of the fluff that gets shoved up in here for the sake of having some words to go with my weekly dress & shoe choices.
To start, I am a real person. What is posted here are snapshots of this-es and that-s which an uninvested onlooker could string together and easily fill in the blanks with good to boring assumptions of what happens between these frozen moments in time. This (to which every other blogger out there can attest) is not true. We have good days, we have bad days, we have excruciatingly unremarkable days. Every once and a while I catch myself the elusive "white whale" of days where I feel straight up unstoppable. When all my work is done, my blog posts are drafted, my skin has called a cease fire, I am rocking some sick new pair of heels, and my hair is falling in just the right way, there is JUST NO MESSIN' WITH ME. On those days I listen to music on my way to the metro and feel like I'm DJ-ing the soundtrack to my super awesome autobiography turned movie staring myself playing myself. Those days are the SHIT.
On the flip side, there are long stretches of time where I want to just curl up with my pets, pull the covers over my head, sink past the mattress and down into the floor beneath to hibernate for at least the next couple of months. I literally sometimes wish I could magically disappear into a different realm where no one knows me at all and I can start all over. I honestly get sort of sick of myself. It's like that feeling you got as a kid when you slept over your best friend's house one too many times in a row. You begin to feel that shift from excitement to homesick and annoyed, the only problem is back then you could just go home. There is no escaping yourself. You are suck with you.
The point of me rambling on about all of this is to get to this part of the story. I am someone who is a true believer signs ("Fools Rush In" is like one of my top ten favorite movies for this very reason). During one of my rougher stretches that only seemed to get worse by the day, I happened across a fortune cookie. Okay, OKAY. who am I kidding, I didn't happen across shit.. I ordered WAY to much Chinese food and was definitely six episodes deep into an ABC show about fairytales, whatever. Anyway, I held this little cookie in my hand and immediately decided it was time to take shit up with the universe. I spoke out loud, "Seriously, is this it? I need to know that things are as they should be, I am right where I am supposed to be, and that I have lots to look forward to in this life of mine. Oh, and it can't just be some generic crap, I am already feeling slightly insane for even participating in this exercise so I am going to need the number 6 to appear in that little lucky number list to believe this is, in fact, the universe answering me back." I crack open this cookie, eat it, and then read the little piece of paper to myself.
"Your best days are ahead of you." Lucky numbers: 6, 23, 18, 4, 43, 31.
The deets: Piperlime skirt (other floral pencil skirt options); Old navy tee; Guess jacket (old, other leather jacket options); BCBGeneration booties; Elizabeth and James sunnies; Rebecca Minkoff bag.
I wore this outfit to go wedding gown shopping with my best friend last Saturday. I know it's not required, but I felt the need to at least cute it up a little for such a special event. It was her first appointment after all. I actually can't get enough of this skirt, I wore it again to work on Monday paired with a dark wash chambray and gold pumps and felt equally cute. I love when I can use my purchases for work and play! I recommend everyone gets a floral pencil as it made me feel deliciously springy.
The deets: J.Crew dress (sold out, love this and this drop waist); Elizabeth and James sunglasses; Stylesho bar necklace; Clare V. clutch; BCBG heels; Guess jacket.
Pink is my black. I am just always feelin' it. I also feel most like myself and in what I would consider my personal style when I have on neutrals (black & leopard) with one bright color (the pink dress) while also rocking edgy (the spikes and leather) and girly (the ruffle) details. It's basically the formula for me to feel my most fabulous. I wouldn't call it my "uniform" because it's hard to get in all these things on the daily with a desk job, but they are my favorite.
The deets: AG jeans; Zara booties; Balenciaga bag; Ray-Ban sunnies; Cynthia Rowley tee; Stylesho jacket; J.Crew pendant; Michael Kors watch; Knox Thomas Designs bracelet.
..Sugar, Flour, & Dairy Free Blueberry Thumbprint Cookies
March 4, 2015 • cookies health kick recipe post
While I can't take credit for these babies (recipe can be found here, thanks pinterest), I did fully enjoy these guilt free cookies so I felt I should share. I am constantly looking for ways I can satisfy my craving to bake while also staying on track with my health. As someone with a huge sweet tooth and penchant for creating sweet things it is something I really struggle with when trying to change my diet. While they were obviously not the same as a sugary chocolate chunk cookie, they did satiate my need to have something sweet, and since they are made with almond flour, they were quite filling and packed with protein. They also paired nicely with my nighttime tea.
Shopbop has an AHHH-mazing selection of designer shiz. I basically have a seasonally revolving fantasy wishlist on their site that just gets longer and longer every time I peruse the website that I stalk and stalk until THIS very sale, then I POUNCE! The deets are below. Happy shopping!

The deets: eShakti dress (c/o); Steve Madden heels; Express jacket (similar); Gigi New York clutch (also love these tassel pouches); J.Crew stud earrings.
I know what I am showing you makes no sense at all, I am rocking a beach umbrella dress with snow still on the ground, but doesn't the saying go "where there's a will there's a way?" When I saw it, I just felt that it needed to be mine. I imagine it in the summer without the jacket, switch out the black lace ups for fun pink strappy heels, and maybe throw on some white sunnies to complete the look.
