So, I have to admit that unlike some of you lucky ladies and gents out there, I do not have a glamorous job. I sit in a cube in front of a computer and run reports, send "give us our money" emails to investors, and mostly just make long lists of tedious mindless work that needs to get done just to experience a tiny bit of joy when I get to cross it off in my pink pen. You know what makes my day even ickier? Wearing something that I don't feel pretty in. Which brings me to my main point. It may sound a teeny bit crazy, but I can honestly say that when I am wearing something bright and feminine that I feel like myself in, my whole day really is better. Happy outfits make for happy employees, happy employees make for a happy workplace, a happy workplace makes for higher quality output so basically the equation comes out to the following:
It may not be what I want to be wearing if stuck in an elevator with my boss's boss's boss, but it's a risk worth taking to make my life a bit more enjoyable, so suck it boring conservative color-wheel! Oh yes I went there.
1 cute outfit + 1 Erin + 1 workday = MORE PRODUCTIVITY! (or something like that).
It may not be what I want to be wearing if stuck in an elevator with my boss's boss's boss, but it's a risk worth taking to make my life a bit more enjoyable, so suck it boring conservative color-wheel! Oh yes I went there.
i am a firm believer in the same equation!! today, for instance, i'm wearing skin tight pink jeans (with ankle zips) a white tank, and a mint blazer. and hot pink lips. i'm so much more productive because of it!!!
ReplyDeleteCupcakesOMG!

I coudn't get more with you on this if I tried. My job is so not glamorous. It's so far away from glamorous I am not even sure what glam looks like anymore. And I feel like I do better when I am feeling good about myself. But I won't lie and say that the lack of inspiration surrounding me from 8-4 doesn't get old by about...11 am. :)
ReplyDeleteHannah Tattoos and Pearls
i think you look great! i sit all day too, i don't see people, so they could care less what i wear around here...so i do it for me! ....also, i like your math... :)
ReplyDeleteI agree that I'm in a better mood when I'm wearing an outfit I love in bright colors. But it doesn't necessarily make me more productive at work, haha.

i worked directly under the COO and CEO of our company and i showed up to work wearing elephant print dresses - so i'm all about bright happy outfits making bright happy employees! this is such a great outfit - two of my favorite colors and stripes! love it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with ur equation... I feel better when dressed well too... I love that skirt and the shoes are just adorbz!!
ReplyDeleteI 100% agree. I'm behind a desk all day, but when I dress in something I love and feel pretty in I'm so much more productive!! Love it.
ReplyDeleteYou should probably wear that shirt forever. It looks amazing on you.
ReplyDeleteI think a cute outfit definitely makes for a happier employee and you look super cute in this - I love the juxtaposition of the lime and blue!

Great colors together! I've searched and searched online for those blue shoes since the last time you did an outfit post with (they look just like the Carven ones!), but I can't find them. Are they recent?
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your formula. This is colorful & still office appropriate to me!

I love this color combo! I think I am more productive on casual Fridays because I can put away the black pencil skirt and break out some colored skinnies.

I love this formula! :) I know what you mean... I do the same! Funny work story for you, I am a cubical infront of the computer person as well. SOME days I get risky and I wear my bright red pants to work. I feel stylish but my work is very low key (alot of people wear jeans everyday) so one day I dared to do the Red Pants my name was announced in front of the entire company. UG. And I had to stand up to be like HEY I am Sara!
ReplyDeleteAnyway I love this outfit!

Love the lipstick color, girl! I am obsessed with hot pink lips right now. I rock it half the time (when I'm not wearing red). I think it looks great on us, brunettes! : )

Amen to that. I think I'm now known at work as the brightly-colored outfit girl. (been here 3 months) I'm pumped about it.
ReplyDeleteLove this and those shoes are amazing!!! I think you are quite work appropriate - who says you can only wear black/white/gray to be "business attire"? So boring!! I have a boring job too (and some down time...which is why I blog and read blogs to keep me sane...I mean entertained (and leave early sometimes!) :)

I love this outfit, and I agree that I feel happier when I look good! I also understand about not wanting to run into the boss's boss's boss! I never dress inappropriately, but there are some days when I feel I might be too over the top and I avoid my principal all day! ;)
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree with you more! I'm the same way, totally cheered up by my clothes sometimes. I love trying out new outfits at work & having my co-workers think I'm crazy or I especially love when I can tell they're jealous that I'm taking a fashion risk they're too scared to! I say bring all the color you can to Corporate America! :o)
ReplyDeletegreat outfit! those colors totally pop together!!

ReplyDeleteLOVE your blog and am so glad you came over to mine! I am totally with you on the bad outfit= bad day gig. My husband COMPLETELY doesn't get that... probably because it's a total girl thing but it really makes all the difference in the world. Bummer that you don't love your job and it's not fun :( 2 months ago I left a job that I was miserable in so I can feel ya on that one . Just know, you're never stuck :) Hope you have a fantastic weekend!

LOVE everything about this outfit. AND omg, you have AMAZING eyelashes. please tell me you're wearing fake ones. If not I'm even more crazy jealous of you than I normally am.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend love!
I feel the EXACT same way!! It's the reason I wear heels to pick the kids up from school :) Cute clothes make mama happy! Gorge outfit! love it! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI totally get you girl. I mostly wear jeans and comfortable shoes to work since I work in a lab, but if I am going to be working on my desk, I usually try to wear a cute outfit. It certainly makes my day.
ReplyDeleteLove the bubble necklace. That color is stunning and goes so well with your shoes.
The PERFECT outfit for work! You look incredible! And I agree with your statement, I am just much happier when I am wearing a cute outfit.
