..How to Cover a Blemish

August 8, 2012

Zit how to

Okay, I know this is not the most glamorous topic, but I thought it would be a helpful one.  We all get these pesky blemishes once and a while, especially during stressful times (unless you are one of those totally annoyingly lucky people that just has beautiful glowing skin all the time), and I thought you all might want to know my tricks of the trade.  I don't know if you guys know this, but I don't have Photoshop or anything like that so if I have a zit, I have to cover it the old fashioned way.  And while digital touch up is great, it's WAY more important to look and feel good in the flesh.  Here is how I create the optical illusion you see above, and it is au-natural, not edited, promise!
  1. Make sure the area is really well moisturized. I would even exfoliate in the shower then apply a really great moisturizer right after.  Makeup in general doesn't sit well on dry skin, this is even more applicable for broken out skin.
  2. Using your ring finger, gently blot a concealer that is your exact skin match onto the spot over and over until completely blended. Never rub it into the skin!
  3. Take a translucent setting powder and again using your ring finger, blot over the area gently.  Bobbi Brown actually makes a creamy concealer kit that comes with both (which is what you see here).  You can repeat steps 2 and 3 once more if you want even more coverage.
  4.  With a makeup sponge, gently blot off any excess product.  Voila!  You are now ready to go back out in public!

  1. I was just thinking about this today ... its sooo handy to fake perfect skin with photo editing, but to actually look that good in real life is sometimes a bit more work! :)

  4. nice!! My mum bought that concealer from Bobbi Brown. I loved the idea of having the creamy with the powder one together, but they don't have a good color that matches my skin:(! too sad!
    Come back soon, hun <3

  12. It's so true that as fun as photoshop can be, it's zero help when you are sitting in a meeting all day with a pimple. I'm one of those very unlucky people who deals with this very. very. often. I'm going to look into the Bobbi Brown kit :)

  13. Maybe I'm not using the right make up? Or I'm probaby not blotting and just rubbing. My routine just usually doesn't cover that completely. Great tips!

  22. I seriously heart you forever for making this post. FOREVER. Can we schedule a DC blogger meet-up sometime this Fall? Coffee and a trip to Sephora, perhaps? I need all the help I can get when it comes to makeup and I could ALWAYS use more female friends in the DC area.
