..My Beach Trip Essentials

Each year before I hightail it to somewhere warm and beachy, I share my essentials for the trip (last year, year before). Here are the ones I have brought with me to Puerto Rico this week.
1. This cover up is so cute and soooo affordable. I don't really understand people that buy these glamorous pricey ones when they just get wet and sandy. No.
2. I searched high and low for the perfect beach bag, this one was just the right amount of colorful, tasseled, and roomy to make the cut (here are other Star Mela options).
3. I definitely wanted leather flip flops in a neutral tone. Rubber/plastic ones are great but tend to break on me in the sand. I wanted something a little tougher and chicer (aka not rainbows) and ended up on these.
7. Not really a beach necessity but I don't go anywhere tropical without this scent. It's just glorious and makes me instantly feel like I'm on vacation because it floods my mind with warm memories, even at home!

Although I am not a true Nats fan (the Yankees will always come first due to my rowdy Jersey upbringing), I attend enough of their baseball games as a transplant to make them my number two team (at least they aren't in the same league). I'm not big on jerseys or fan gear but red nail polish with a linen baseball tee and comfy sneaks I can get down with. Add stadium hot dogs, a cute boyfriend, and beer to that list and you've got a perfect Saturday.

If I have a lipstick shade that perfectly matches something I am wearing, I can't help but wear it. Be honest with me, is this a mom thing? I can't tell but I likes it. Also - how pretty are all the leaves finally falling to the ground? It's starting to look a lot like fall around here which has me SUPER excited about the apple picking trip I have planned for this weekend (even though it's only Monday). Bring it on!

The air is cold, fantasy football is on, I broke down and ordered my first pumpkin spice latte (on Friday the 13th, it just seemed appropriate), and I baked some seasonal spiced cookies over the weekend (more on that later in the week). I feel like the summer months just flew by. Wasn't it just a couple of weeks ago that I was running around Ocean City over Memorial Day Weekend? Didn't I just celebrate my June birthday the other day? I guess not. Time seems to slow down for me a bit it September. It's a nice change to the fast pace of the Summer months, I spend more energy reflecting, and there is the universal scent of renewal in the air. I know the official new year starts in January, but I feel the real beginning happens now, so I hope everyone has a happy one.

Last summer I was in a wedding for one of my besties and was given the freedom to buy whatever nude shoes I wanted to match the bridesmaid dress. I obviously tasked myself with finding the perfect pair that was fancy enough to rock in a wedding but also a small reflection of my personality (as you don't have much room for personal style in matching dresses). I went months with out finding anything that jumped out at me and finally found these previously loved (let's just say they're "vintage") beauties on eBay like literally three days before the big day. I still love them and wear them all the time at work. What a win of a purchase.

One of my besties was in town last weekend from NY and we had a such fun time together. Even though the night included a seriously epic journey to a friends place involving one car break down, getting lost in pouring rain, spike heels, and one umbrella split between us, we always manage to find the humor in any situation. We busted Siri out, found the party, blew dry our outfits in the bathroom, and immediately made our way to the shot station. She is one fun chick who inspires me to take more fashion risks and break out of my normal signature style uniform. Camo print and pastels, man. Shaking things up over here.

Rooftop/patio/BBQ season is upon us and nothing compliments it better than a maxi dress. This cozy cotton one only cost me a measly thirteen dollars (if you read this blog regularly you know I have a shopping addiction and the only store within walking distance is Wet Seal), so fun-time penalties like spilling beer and/or dripping mustard all over myself aint no thang.
Also - how cool are these bracelets? They are made from 40% recycled materials so basically I'm helping the planet and accessorizing at the same time and that = WIN WIN!

I know there's some silly rule floating around out there about wearing white before some very specific day of the year, but I think it's absolute donkey booty. That's right I said it. Until someone tries to write me a fashion ticket, I'm going to wear white if I dang well please. The tempurature finally rose above 50 degrees and if that's not a reason to throw on your purple gingham and have a white skirt party, I don't know what is.

On Saturday morning the evil winter gods decided to turn spring loose for a bit which resulted in a gloriously perfect day. Obviously, if you weren't on a rooftop somewhere having a libation while letting your forehead and nose roast you weren't taking full advantage of this gift. Although it was followed up by the dreariest of rainy days, it totally reignited my excitement for the upcoming months. Bring on the brightly colored everythings (blazers especially), outdoor partying, and general good time having. I'm ready!

I've had this skirt for quite some time and have only broken it out a handful of times because I couldn't really figure out how to style it in a way that felt right and would get frustrated. My very fabulous coworker, Paige, happens to have the same one and rolled into work wearing it with a chambray top and a yellow necklace. PERFECTO! I told her immediately that I was totally going to steal her look...and then take pictures of it and put it on the internet because that's a totally normal thing to do, right? Right.

Here we have another work look documented for your viewing (or glazing over) pleasure. I went a little matchy-matchy-cray-cray but no regrets here. I maaaaybe miiight have been pushing the rules a little with this number (I didn't realize how short it looked until checking out these photos). The lucky people standing below me on the metro escalators might have gotten a little more than they paid for that day but I came out of the office unscathed so no harm done!
